Safety at Every Level

Safety at Every Level: How JOFFIE Protects Workers, Buildings, and the Public with Rigorous Rope Descent Training

At JOFFIE, safety isn’t a box we check — it’s a culture we live by.

Recently, our entire team of at-height window cleaning professionals gathered for a full-day safety training and recertification, focused on IWCA Safe Practices for Rope Descent Systems. It’s just one way we ensure that when you hire JOFFIE, you’re hiring not only the most efficient team in the business — but also the safest.

From Classroom to Concrete

The training day began in the classroom, where our technicians reviewed OSHA regulations and IWCA standards that govern our work at elevation. While these requirements are essential to compliance, they're more than just policy — they’re practical guidelines that protect workers, bystanders, and the integrity of your building.

From there, the team transitioned to an actual JOFFIE job site to prove they could put their training into practice in a controlled but realistic setting.

The Safety Skills We Put to the Test

Each team member was evaluated across six key safety protocols that mirror real-life emergency and operational scenarios on a building exterior:

Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)

Workers surveyed the jobsite to identify and mitigate potential risks — a vital part of pre-job safety.

Knots

Team members tied and demonstrated the three primary rope knots used in rope descent operations.

Rope Climbing

Each technician showed they could climb their rope using approved equipment in case of mechanical failure or obstacle navigation.

Self-Rescue

Simulating a severed rope, technicians had to safely execute a solo rescue using their gear — a last-resort maneuver no one wants to need, but must be ready for.

Rope Transfer

They also had to transfer from one rope system to another — a high-skill task requiring calm, confidence, and precision.

Partner Rescue

Perhaps the most important: each team member executed a full rescue of a teammate using the JAG rescue system, showing they could lower an injured worker from the side of a building or rooftop safely and swiftly.

Why This Matters to You as a Property Owner or Manager

When you contract a company to work on your building — especially one that operates dozens of feet in the air — you need to know:

  • They follow all OSHA regulations
  • Their team is trained for real-world emergencies
  • They won’t put your building, your tenants, or the public at risk

With JOFFIE, you can rest easy. We don’t just say we’re safe — we prove it, again and again.

100% Pass Rate, 100% Commitment

We’re proud to share that every member of the JOFFIE team passed their evaluations with flying colors.

Of course, we hope we never need to use emergency rescue skills in a live scenario. But we train — and retrain — regularly so that if a situation arises, we're ready to respond with precision and professionalism.

Because the safety of our team, your property, and the people who walk beneath it matters just that much.
